So I am putting this recipe together and realize that in November I published a turkey recipe! However that recipe was with 24 ounces of turkey and this one is with 32 ounces so the measurements are a bit different.
I rotate turkey with 4 other different animal proteins People always ask me why I do not use chicken. I have a feeling Bella is intolerant to turkey so I do not offer it. When buying turkey, do not just buy ground turkey breast, that does not have enough fat, try to get one that has a mix of dark and white meat. Look at the ingredients, more than likely it will have either natural flavors or rosemary. Stay clear of natural flavors for you and your dog. It can have up to 200 chemicals in it to enhance the flavor. Let’s debunk the urban legend of Rosemary causing seizures in dogs. Rosemary oil is what may cause seizures in dogs, you can use Rosemary or Rosemary extract. In previous publications or videos I may have mentioned to stay clear of all rosemary but with further research I am hearing it is Rosemary Oil that can cause seizures. If I had a dog prone to seizures, I would personally stay clear of all Rosemary because honestly Canine Nutrition is very fluid
In this particular publication instead of giving you a full recipe, I am giving you a simple chart how to choose your vegetables. This way, you can pick and choose what to add! Not all veggies are equal. In my recipes I use mostly low starchy veggies and add in a little high starchy veggies. I try to tailor all my recipes for cancer prevention and joints issues prevention. Too may high starchy veggies will cause inflammation which is a precursor to disease.
Please keep in mind to only use spinach is a MINIMAL rotation since spinach is a high oxalate food, it can cause kidney stones. This is why I cringe when I see mail order foods that always have spinach in them. If the pet owner uses the same food, over time, the dog can get kidney stones.
Happy Cooking!
Disclaimer:. I am not a vet (though vets do not learn nutrition in vet school). I base my recipes on my 13 years of cooking for my dog and my passion of keeping up with Canine Nutrition
Yes. This rule is for an adult dog not a puppy
Happy to see the thumbs up for rosemary extract. I’ve only found o e ground Turkey by Diestel at Whole Foods that uses vinegar as a preservative.
